Muscle Activation Techniques
Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT)
The muscles of the body are capable of generating incredible amounts of strength and power. They are able to perform large amounts of work over time, while keeping the body potentially free from injury. Yet, muscles, like everything else in life, require consistent maintenance and the occasional “tune-up.” Amazingly enough, when we are in need of that “tune-up,” our bodies give us signs like muscular tightness, weakness, and pain. Unfortunately, many of us have been conditioned to ignore these signs. This can create compensations on many levels, which can lead to joint degeneration and muscular injury. Yet, all this can be managed and potentially avoided. Greg Roskopf’s Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is a systematic approach of restoring muscular strength and balance around the joints of the body. This modality of treatment is designed to specifically focus on strengthening weak muscles. The old saying, “the weak link rules the chain,” is 100% correct. The stability and strength of our bodies as a whole is dependent upon the strength of its weakest muscles. Therefore, without addressing these muscles the body will never reach its true potential for strength. MAT strengthens the body by activating those weakened muscles, which restores their ability to forcefully contract on demand and control the forces being placed on them. As a result, the body’s total strength and power increases, while the risk of injury decreases. Who uses MAT?
